-------------------------------------------------
It is time for the main event!!

The final showdown to decide the All-Time Great Featherweight Champion of the World!

We have reached the finals of this All-time Greats Featherweight tournament with two of the favourites fighting for the crown. Salvador Sanchez & Willie Pep. We are at Madison Square Garden on this hot summer evening in June! Madison Square Garden, one of the greatest venues in the world to host this fantastic match between two World Champions who have earned their positions as All-time great featherweight champions!

We started with 32 Champions and now we are down to 2!

Salvador Sanchez, hailing from Tianguistenco, Mexico, comes in with a record of (44, 1, 1) with 32 knockouts under his belt! Willie Pep from tConnecticut, USA, comes in with a distinguished record of (229, 11, 1) and 65 of those fights ending in knockouts!

As the fighters approach the ring, Salvador Sanchez, the pride of Mexico, is entering the ring, and followed by his trainer, Jimmy Montoya. The young Sanchez is smiling and looks relaxed as he ducks through the ropes.

The crowd is going wild as Sanchez enters the ring with his buoyant legs covering the canvas. He is bouncing energetically on his toes and shadow boxes in his corner, as he waits for the announcements to begin.

The fans are definitely giving these fighters a welcome they will never soon forget!

Willie Pep is approaching the ring accompanied by trainer Bill Gore and cut man, Paddy Colavito. As he enters, he also looks relaxed, but determined.

Johnny Addie, the ring announcer, is at the center of the ring for the introductions!!!

“Welcome to the All-time Greats Featherweight Tournament. This is the main event of the evening. 15 rounds. In the Featherweight class, from Hartford, Connecticut. His weight is 126lbs, wearing white trunks and a black stripe.  The Featherweight Champion of the World, Willie Pep."

Pep, always the gentleman, takes his bow to the crowd.

“And his opponent, from Tianguistenco, Mexico. His weight 126lbs.  Wearing gold trucks with a green stripe. The World Featherweight Champion, Salvador Sanchez.”

“The ring officials are assigned by the New York Athletic Commission and the judges are Harold Barnes and Joe Eppy. The referee is Arthur Donovan and here are your referee’s instructions Ladies & Gentleman!’

Arthur Donovan is taking the microphone, as the two fighters and their teams meet in center ring. “ I explained the rules to both of you in the dressing room. I expect a clean fight. Always obey my commands and defend yourselves at all times. Good luck to both of you. Shake hands and come out fighting boys.”

Both fighters are going to their assigned corners. As the fighters disrobe, Willie Pep is doing his usual dig-in shuffle in the corner, while Sanchez is banging his gloves together, while bouncing on his toes.

The fight is underway folks!!!

ROUND 1

Sanchez comes out quickly in this opening round, and begins to concentrate his attack on the inside to slow Pep down. He has landed several good body shots, while Willie is having trouble getting on track. Sanchez’s hand speed seems to be surprising Pep.

ROUND 2

It is Round 2.  Both boxers are like coiled springs, and the tension is palpable as they pause for a moment, searching for openings.

Sanchez continues to work on the inside, while Pep tires to get his offence going.

As the round moves on, the action is warming up, with both boxers  settling into their rhythms.

Sanchez is scoring well on the inside.

Pep is responding by getting the jab going and landing some hooks of his own in a very close round.

ROUND 3

Each man’s speed and defensive skills is making it hard for the other to land cleanly.

We are Midway through the round!

Pep seems to be hurt by a body shot!

He is responding with a strong flurry of his own that catches Sanchez.

This round has ended with both men firing to each other’s body.

ROUND 6

Not a lot of action here in the 6th round, it is quiet, as both fighters appear to be taking a breather early on.

There is more wrestling in this round as Pep holds onto Sanchez and is attempting to stop him from working on the inside.

Sanchez ups his work rate and starts to fire more punches at the elusive Pep.

Willie is still slipping a lot of punches and more are getting through from Sanchez.

Sanchez lands a body shot and then a flurry of punches to Pep’s head that rocks him into the ropes.

ROUND 12

Sanchez is now definitely the aggressor and is firing some hot combinations that even the ‘Will o the wisp’ is having trouble avoiding.

ROUND 14

Pep seems tired as he is on the defensive again for the first half of the round, with Sanchez landing some good jabs and hooks to the body.

Sanchez is only landing a fraction of what he is throwing, but he is throwing a breathtaking amount of punches now.

Just past half way through the round, Pep is coming back with a flurry of his own, and some good body shots as he realizes that the fight is slipping away from him.

The crowd is going mad. Standing up, as this fistic action is at the boiling point at Madison Square Garden!!!

ROUND 15

For the first 2 minutes, Round 15 has been fought evenly and now,  Sanchez has begun to press the action again.

We are going into the final thirty seconds!!!

The fighters are exchanging evenly along the ropes, with Sanchez landing a jab to the body!!
